English Translation:
Appeared as sweet sugarcane when seen, but turned out to be cold iron when grasped. (A deceptive exterior; what looked alluring and soft proved rigid, harsh, and painful upon closer contact.)

English Translation:
From a burning house, whatever rafter-pole is pulled out in time is pure profit. (Salvaging whatever little remains from an unfolding catastrophe; cutting losses in a total disaster.)

English Translation:
Lacking time to draw the dagger, he struck with the scabbard on. (Blinded by frantic panic, one acts so haphazardly that the effort becomes useless.)
