English Translation:
If you sit beneath a tree while chopping it down, you end up underneath and the timber on top. (Careless laziness and poor planning ensure that your own work crushes you.)

English Translation:
Even if one’s mother lies dead, sweep up the plantain peels before weeping. (Ridiculous prioritization of petty chores or superficial appearances in the midst of grave tragedy.)

English Translation:
The heavy security pledged by the high chancellor, and the daily daybreak of the poor woodcutter. (A sharp contrast between monumental, unshakeable state guarantees and the precarious, hand-to-mouth survival of the humble laborer.)
